Materials & certifications

Materials

Glass

A hard, brittle substance usually made from a mixture of silica (sand) and lime (calcium oxide) to form a non-crystalline solid.

Use Cases: Commonly used in food and beverage containers, windows, and various appliances.

Good to Know: Glass is prized for its clarity, heat-resistance, and chemical stability, making it safe for storing all types of food and drinks without risk of chemical leaching. It can be recycled extensively without significant loss in quality.

Silicone

A synthetic polymer used to create a rubber-like material that is heat resistant and flexible.

Use Cases: Commonly used in kitchen utensils and food storage container seals or lids due to its high-heat tolerance and non-reactive properties.

Good to Know: Despite its durability and safety in cooking applications, silicone is not as sustainable as often perceived. It is difficult to recycle and usually downcycled into other products. While it doesn’t shed microplastics, its environmental impact in production and end-of-life processing is something to be mindful of.

Stainless Steel

An alloy composed mainly of iron, carbon, and chromium, with chromium content at least 10.5%. This chromium reacts with oxygen to form a thin, invisible layer of chromium oxide on the surface. This layer protects the steel from rust and corrosion, making it "stainless."

Use Cases: Ideal for kitchen utensils, cookware, major appliances, and various architectural elements

Good to Know: High-grade stainless steel is a champion in the kitchen, keeping your food pure and flavors intact. It won’t leach chemicals into your meals and is resistant to rust and corrosion, helping to keep bacteria at bay. This makes it a top choice for food prep, cooking, and storage.

Plus, it’s a friend to the planet, too. Stainless steel is 100% recyclable, which reduces its environmental footprint over its lifecycle.
